Fashionable Things To Do

We've all been there, those days when you're home and there is nothing to do. No work; no chores; nothing on Tv; there's nothing interesting happening on the internet.
So here are some fashionable alternatives to moping aimlessly around the house all day.

Shop
I'm not sure if it gets more fashionable than this...

Read Magazines
Fashion magazines are very fashionable and readable and they're fun for wasting time. Go buy them.
SUPPORT THE MAGAZINE INDUSTRY!

Scrapbook
There is nothing more fun than finding a magazine which you no longer read or like and cutting it up. As September and the whole "Back to School" attitude are about to start again you may as well begin to jazz up some of you school supplies such as your planner.
I have also made a tutorial to make this. Link is here!

You could also decorate your laptop/netbook if you like. Okay it's not fashion related but it's still cool. (The names are names of my favourite bands.)

And if you're anything like me you could even try taking it to the max, as in take it to your walls.

And no teenage bedroom is complete with out a band/music wall of one sort or another.

Take fashion Pictures
Go get dressed up in your favourite outfit, do you hair, make up and go model the hell out of your clothes because why not?!

Practice walking (or strutting) round in heels
After all practice makes perfect and kets be honest, it's not exactly easy to master.

Paint Your nails
Again practice makes perfect and I happen tp be one who need practice. After all I get very jealous when scrolling down my instagram at all everyone with pretty, perfect nail art.

Read fashion relate books
They're interesting to read and it's educational, so what's there to lose?!

Brush up on your history of certain pieces and fashion houses
If you, like me, would like to work in the industry it can't and won't hurt to have some background information on brands and certain trends and idea's.
It can be very helpful later on.
 It also means that you can spend hours irritating all your friends and family with your very in-depth knowledge of the chelsea boot or the corset and watch them suffer, which is always fu for the more evil minded/natured.

Design
Literally all you need is a pen and some paper, let your mind "run free" and come up with what you'd like to wear. or if you can't draw for the life of you do not fret (also I feel your pain) you can always get an old curtain and experiment with wrapping the fabric round you and working in that manor, a mannequin can be very helpful though, there have been far too many incidents of me stabbing myself in the leg or arm with a damn pin or sewing needle.

If you're looking for a simpler and easier way to design you can always cut up and adjust clothes; for example I bought this shirt and thought it was a bit boring so I made it more interesting. Basically I punked it.

And I made this because, let's be honest here, it's pretty damn cool. (For this you'll need fabric markers btw.)

Experiment with make-up
When you have a lot of time and make-up this should always be the answer. Can result in some interesting results! (I just realise how dumb a thing that was to write but I'm leaving it there.)

You're going to have to have a very good make-up wipe because you'll constantly be taking it off.
You'll also need a few because they'll get grubby very quickly!







Tidy up your damn room
I mean if you're reading this there is a very high probability that you're procrastinating from one thing or another so if that one thing happens to be you room. GO. CLEAN.

Tutorial: Fashion Planner

For a fashionable start to the new academic year.

For this tutorial you will need to steal/borrow/buy:

•  A mid-year academic planner.
• Scissors
• Glue (Like a pritt stick or something)
• Sellotape
• Two or three magazines you can cut up. (Don't you dare use Vogue or Elle!)
• Patience
• A steady hand
• Some creativity (Not much don't worry)

When scarp-booking in any way, shape or form it's good to begin by leafing though the magazines you will be using and then start to mental pick out what will go on your planner. This means that you can also decide on a colour theme if you wish. I didn't because I'm lazy but you defiantly can!

Now you can start to roughly cut out what you want on the cover of your planner.

Once you've cut it out it should look like this. I usually now look though what ever I'm cutting out of and find everything I want and cut it out like this. This way later on it's less hassle and time consuming to find what I want.

Now you can cut it out prettily if you wish and hopefully it should look like this. Also mind out when cutting around corners because if you're not you could tear the paper because it isn't exactly strong.

It would probably be wise to leave about a millimeter between the edge of the paper and the item you're cutting out. It just looks better this way if you ask me!

Okay next up you need to grab that bland, boring planner of yours. It's time for a make over!
(Please don't judge me for writing that...)

First off it would be a good idea if you had somewhere to write your details on for when you lose it. So get a piece of paper (a piece of card would be ideal) and cut it into a square/ rectangle however big you need to fit your name.

Because everyone always want to be neat draw on a small border, this way when you stick things over you'll not stick them on your details. Also draw an many lines as you will have lines of text, this way it wont be at an angle and be tidier.

Now just go ahead and scribble on somethings such as your year, name, form or what ever you need on there to get it returned to you when you lose it.

Now start to build up your design.

Getting there...

I took the paper with my name, year and form on and stuck somethings I cut out around it so that it became one piece and became easier to move around.

You may need to mess around with the arrangement a few times to make it fit but eventually it will. Once it does stick it all down with glue.

If you want to add a sort of background you can use sweet wrapper because they are usually bright and colourful. I put some on the spine to make it more interesting. Just glue them on the same as everything else.

You should now have a new cool new planner to start the year with and also have an item which you can use to make all your friends jealous for your own amusement. Be the envy of everyone and try not to get it confiscated.

As a finishing touch you could laminate it or just stick a load of clear sellotape over the cover to protect the design and prevent any of your hard work from ripping off.

Neckline Disguising Necklaces

We all like to have various t-shirts, I myself am a lover of funny t-shirts and band shirts. Unfortunately these shirts more than not come with crew neckline which, in my opinion, is certainly unflattering for girls and recently I have been noticing that more and more people are counteracting this problem with a very fabulous solution.

I must admit that this seems a very obvious idea and it is but I didn't think of it and usually I'm good at think of solutions like these.

I recently purchased a very kitsch and more than obviously fake (but not fake enough for my siblings to notice) pearl necklace.

This also comes with the benefit that you now look immediately more fashionable and with that I am now allowed to wear my much loved band merch out of the house and in public. SCORE!

I also spent a little while browsing the internet for other necklaces which can be used in the same way. These were my 10 favorites!

Holiday Hand Luggage

Summer means one thing for most people.

A holiday.

The further away from their real everyday lives the better usually, however this may result in the need to travel long distances for large amounts of time in either a boat, plane, car, bus or train. On long journeys people easily get bored and to cure this people take hand luggage with them. This is what I take.

The contents of my bag!

In my bag there is my netbook (a little laptop) three books, a fan, a notebook which contains my Summer bucket list, two pens (in case one runs out of course), a small purse, my phone, my iPod, an adaptor, in ear headphones, over ear head phones, two pairs of sunglasses so I can change them depending on my mood, a compact mirror, mascara, liquid eyeliner, crème foundation and finally lip gloss, every girl needs her lip gloss.
(And yes it does all fit in my bag... except The Decameron... that gets chucked in the suitcase.)

Who goes on holiday without a book... or two... or three... Well I am certainly not one of those people! This year I have been lugging around the latest Dan Brown book Inferno (I am a little obsessed with his books), a fabulous book by Swiss street style photographer and blogger Yvan Rodic, also know as 'FaceHunter'  (His blog is here), called FaceHunter in which he documents though pictures his one year long travel around the globe to various different cities and countries meeting many different people and capturing their Street style! And lastly I have The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio as recommend by my mother who believes I should read more (Um, hello, do you even understand the amount of fan fiction I read?). 

I will be adding a review of Inferno and FaceHunter to my blog once I finish them!

The electronics I take are only my essentials which I really can go without. Mainly my iPod. As long as I am in possession of that I will cope. I take my phone, adaptor, netbook and two pairs of head phones, in and over ear. I am aware that usually the point of a holiday is to escape all the work and stress of daily life and taking these items with me also means that I will be effectively taking work with me, however I am a teenage girl who has become slightly dependent on the internet (BUT IT'S NOT JUST ME OKAY) and I prefer to be up to date with all teat is going on, as well as then having the opportunity to update my blog and other things for all my lovely readers. (That means you!)

There is no need to have extensive amounts of make-up in you hand luggage however if you feel the need to have it again take only the essentials and the bare minimum. For me that would include my Boujour Fan-Tastic mascara, my Misslyn liquid eyeliner, some W7 creme foundation (it's basically in between powder and liquid foundation, great for hiding the little bags under your eyes if you've had a long flight), a little lip gloss from Next because why not and of course a compact mirror to apply my face whilst on the go. I bought this fab (and kinda punk) little compact from Forever 21!

There are some other things which I enjoy having with me when I'm traveling, these include my Summer bucket list (You can find the things on my list here), a little purse which I have no recalation from where I came, however it is very handy to have and contain any holiday money i may have, a note book to scribble down all my thoughts and ideas and two pens, i have to have two pens, it's so i know i can always write. I always take a fan too, especially when I got to hot countries. Everyone laughs and says that it's dumb to take it but by the end of the day they always start to beg you to let them borrow it. Who's dumb now?

I felt my little bag needed it's own picture, rather deserved it's own picture. I've had it for a couple years now and not once has it failed me. It is of very good quality, i have never experienced a problem with the zips and I usually do with bags and never has there been a problem with anything breaking, from Daks. Because of its small size it will easily fit everywhere, for example on a plane it can stay under the seat in front of you so that you have quick easy access to it, on a train you can place it by your feet and the same when you are traveling by car or bus, it does not bother you as some bags do if they are too large. It can fit all of the things I need and does it with ease as it is never a struggle to zip it shut. And the cherry on the cake is that the retail  price of this bag, because it is Daks, would have been £250 (explaining the quality) however I purchased it for only £50.

Mode Museum "Couture in Colour" - (Exhibition Review)

As a person who loves fashion naturally I also enjoy to do thing which are fashion related such as shop, blog etc. But I also like to learn about fashion, its history and as a persons who spent a larger proportion of their childhood in war museums and churches (much to my displeasure) it was nice to finally find something which I would actually enjoy and learn something from.

In the Belgian city of Antwerp there is the Mode Museum. It is situated close to the cities heart on the Nationalestraat and also has the benefit of being close to the cities busy shopping areas to help attract the fashion obsessed public such as myself.

The exhibition currently being shown is "Couture in Colour" which features various silks and prints from the Abraham Archives. It is about the company which supplied many fashion houses with their textiles

The company closed in 2002 however left behind and extensive and impressive archive.

The exhibition was informative and very interesting, everywhere explanations were written in Dutch, French and English so it can be enjoyed by many people regardless to a certain extent of the language that they speak.
My favourite part was with out a doubt where they had a small room which was completely dark but had five dress makers dummies in white clothes with different cuts jackets and dresses. The room was made so dark because each of the dummies had a projector aimed at it and the projector cast different images on the dummies as if they were the fabrics and prints so that the white clothes look as if they were in different colours etc. A very clever idea which I very much enjoyed.
However because of how good I found the exhibition to be I also found it disappointing to find that the exhibition was only on one floor and rather short. Personally I would have enjoyed it to be longer.

The building of the museum also houses a library in which it has 15,000 books, including 50 magazine subscriptions as well as a reading room for the use of designers, students and visitors.
The architecture of museum, in my opinion, is very suited to its use as it is contemporary and rather fashionable with large open spaces and plenty of natural light.

The the current exhibition will be shown until and including Sunday the 11th of August
